Canada falls out of top 10 in latest World Happiness Report, behind the U.S.

According to the 2021 World Happiness Report from the United Nations, Canada has fallen out of the top ten list in the World Happiness Index, behind the United States. Canada ranked 15th in 2021, down five spots from 2017-2019.

In previous years, Canada has ranked ahead of the United States. However, this year Canada has officially fallen behind the United States in its ranking.

The United States ranked No. 14 on this year’s list, while Canada ranked No. 15. 

In 2020, Canada ranked 10th on the list. In 2019, Canada ranked 9th and in 2018 ranked 7th. 

The results from the report are based on 2020 data examining income, freedom, trust in government, life expectancy, social support and generosity.

The top ten list: 

  1. Finland
  2. Iceland
  3. Denmark
  4. Switzerland 
  5. The Netherlands
  6. Sweden
  7. Germany
  8. Norway
  9. New Zealand
  10. Austria 

Finland has remanded in the No. 1 spot for four years in a row.

  3. Ireland
  4. United States
  5. Canada
  6. Czech Republic
  7. Belgium
  8. United Kingdom
  9. Taiwan 
  10. France
