In October 2021, the Trudeau government made COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for all new members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Members already enrolled had until the end of November to get vaccinated or face severe consequences.

In total, 299 members were forced to leave the Canadian military, while 108 members requested to leave the force.

Experts say the measure was unnecessary, especially at a time when the Canadian military faces a recruiting shortage.

Mounting evidence showed at the time of the mandate that COVID-19 vaccines did not prevent transmission of the virus.
