The movie depicts 11-year-old girls twerking, a “sexually suggestive dancing characterized by rapid, repeated hip thrusts and shaking of the buttocks especially while squatting”.
The original poster for the movie created a strong reaction on the internet. On the poster, the prepubescent girls can be seen in suggestive postures and dressed inappropriately.

The reaction to the poster made Netflix change the description of their movie.
Originally, their description read : “Amy, 11 years old, tries to escape family dysfunction by joining a free-spirited dance clique named “Cuties,” as they build their self confidence through dance.”
They then changed it to : “Eleven-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family’s traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew.”
Notice the difference here: the added word conservative.
Apparently, the backlash did not force Netflix to review their highly inappropriate movie but rather to just change its description to make it a conservative versus progressive issue.
This is not the first time Netflix promotes content which may appeal to pedophiles.
When asked by an online user whether Netflix “supports pedophilia”, a Netflix customer service representative refused to answer by a simple yes or no answer, stating instead that Netflix “cannot really comment on that.”
