Data coming out of Gas Buddy shows that only five states in the entire U.S. have their average gallon of gas under $4.

Elsewhere in the United States, the average price per gallon of gas exceeds $4, with California having the highest gas prices in the country.

AAA has the average price of gas at the highest level on record for May 11, 2022, at $4.404 per gallon of regular unleaded gas.

AAA says that “in the past two weeks, the national average for a gallon of gasoline has risen 20 cents to $4.32, a penny less than the record high set on March 11.”

“With the cost of oil accounting for more than half of the pump price, more expensive oil means more expensive gasoline,” Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson said.

Some parts of California are seeing the average price of gas exceeding $6 per gallon.
