The Freedom Convoy’s GoFundMe has raised over $3.2 million since January 14th.
The convoy was originally organized as a way to protest Canada’s newly imposed vaccine mandate on Canadian truckers coming back from the United States. Unvaccinated truckers are required to enter a mandatory quarantine for 14 days after their arrival.
The policy has strained supply chains across Canada. Since the policy was implemented, bare shelves have been observed across Canada.
The convoy’s demands are broader than just the abolition of the trucker mandate: “We are taking our fight to the doorsteps of our Federal Government and demanding that they cease all mandates against its people. Small businesses are being destroyed, homes are being destroyed, and people are being mistreated and denied fundamental necessities to survive. It’s our duty as Canadians to put an end to this mandates”, the GoFundMe reads.
While the convoy has gathered popular support amongst most truckers, the Canadian Trucking Alliance condemned the protest, saying truckers “must adapt and comply”.
