Blitzer pointed out to Speaker Pelosi that multiple members of her party wanted to accept the $1.8 trillion deal.
After Blitzer pointed this out, Pelosi responded by saying “I don’t know why you’re always an apologist for the Republican position” and “that isn’t what we’re going to do” referring to accepting the $1.8 trillion deal on the table from the Republicans.
She immediately contradicted herself and said she wants the deal done now, instead of in February. She then said, “but it’s no use giving them [the American people] a false thing just because the President wants to put a cheque with his name on it”.
Blitzer responded saying, “there are millions of Americans who have lost their jobs, they can’t pay the rent, their kids need food. 1.8 trillion dollars and the President just tweeted ‘Stimulus go big or go home’ he wants even more right now, so why not work on a deal with him and don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”
During this exchange, Pelosi made personal insults towards the CNN anchor for pressing her on the issue. The anchor responded to Pelosi’s insults saying, “it’s not about me, its about millions of Americans who can’t put food on the table, who can’t pay the rent, who are having trouble getting by.”
Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz responded to Pelosi’s CNN comments on Twitter.
Pelosi’s cameo on CNN set off some Americans on twitter who feel that the Speaker is using stimulus for political ends, instead of helping the American people.
