On the homepage for “Coronavirus: Staying safe and informed on Twitter“, Twitter updated the policy to reflect that “Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy.”

The first time Twitter started monitoring information around COVID-19 was April 1, 2020, and periodically updated its COVID-19 policy in a blog post.

Between January 2020 and September 2022, Twitter suspended over 11,000 accounts for breaking its “COVID-19 misinformation” policy. In addition, more than 100,000 pieces of content was removed from the platform.

Currently, other major social media apps and sites like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube still have their COVID-19 information policies in place.
